Founded in 2004, Wi-Manx provides quality home broadband and reliable voice solutions to the residents of the Isle of Man. The island’s only 100% Manx-owned company, Wi-Manx uses years of IT experience and local knowledge to provide quality solutions and excellent customers service to all our valued clients.
Why I Purchased Wi-Manx
We decided to buy Wi-Manx back in 2014 as I lived on the Isle of Man and it seemed like a good time to also have a business in my home country. At this point, I already had UK and Spanish data centre assets and was looking for something similar on the Island.
Wi-Manx was a great local Manx business, with an established reputation and customer base. That made it a prime candidate for acquisition. Once I’d bought the business, I decided to expand our scope of service, so we also started selling services to businesses off-Island that were already customers of Elite Group.
How Wi-Manx has Grown
After acquiring Wi-Manx, the team worked hard to expand our customer base and product range. As time progressed and technology changed, we decided to reposition the business as a Cloud-First business, moving all our services to the Cloud where possible.
It also meant we could close some of our data Centre assets and move clients into our far more environmentally friendly Microsoft Azure cloud which has proven to be 93% more energy-efficient and 98% more carbon-efficient than on-premise solutions.
In 2020, we rebranded the B2B side of the business to Elite Group IOM and kept the Wi-Manx brand for the B2C and broadband base. This allowed us to focus on each area of our customer base exclusively, ensuring the best possible customer service for all.
The Future of Wi-Manx
Now that Wi-Manx is strictly a B2C company, we have renewed focus on expanding and growing our residential customer base. With our newest offering of Fibre broadband, we’re helping to bring this new and improved connectivity to homes across the Isle of Man and hoping to become one of the Island’s leading broadband providers in the process.
By combining our technical expertise with our ‘Locals for Locals’ approach and excellent customer service, we’re hoping we’ll continue to set ourselves apart from other providers. We’re also proud that any growth we experience will also support the Manx economy and its people, creating job opportunities and keeping Manx money on the island.
