In this series of articles, we’ll take a look at Churchill Support Services’ most pivotal moves, and why I personally consider them to be some of the more impactful and integral moves we’ve made over the years.
Today, we’ll focus on the company, the subsequent astronomic growth and flourishment of Churchill Support Services, and its recent acquisition of Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions Ltd. We’ll look at how that’s fed into the future, and what such a move helped bring to the respective companies.
We’ll also break down the important factors that led to this move, and how it can provide a blueprint for future successes in both acquisitions and growth.
As one of the UK’s leading providers of security solutions to businesses and events across a range of sectors, Churchill Support Services represents the epitome of a competitive and thriving industry. They’ve been at the pinnacle of security and safety for over 20 years, thanks to their multi-faceted and refreshing approach to what can be a very cut-and-dry industry.
Chief among those achievements is their scores on the notoriously rigorous ACS assessment. With 2 years of near flawless scores of 144 out of 145 leading into the 2023 assessment, the pressure was on. And, thanks to their innovative approach and dedication, they once again achieved an astounding 144/145 audit result, a feat that’s still unmatched across the industry.
There’s multiple reasons behind Churchill’s revitalising methodology, but much of it falls down to their central purpose and values system, which not only forefronts their people and associated talents, but maintains a sense of humility across everything they do.
It’s underscored by strong passion and a fervent commitment to everything the company approaches, ranging from large-scale, commercial contracts, to smaller events and personal security. Not only that, but Churchill’s dedication to the cutting edge of security technology means they’re always seeking to bring the latest developments to their valued clients.
Whether that’s new and emerging technologies for access control, or state-of-the-art CCTV cameras, it’s that desire to drive the security industry forward that really cements Churchill as one of the major players in security and support.
There’s nowhere that’s more apparent than Churchill’s round-the-clock 24/7 Communications Centre.
Offering a complete 24/7/365 service, the Comms Centre ensures a service that’s both comprehensive and unmatched in its coverage, as well as providing an average response time of just 30 minutes from when the initial call is made, to an officer arriving on site to deal with any issues or disturbances.
Established in 1996, Churchill Support Services have experienced exponential growth over those last 27 years, going from strength to strength to become established as a premier option in the security industry.
From its inception in the mid-90s, Churchill Support Services have experienced many renaissances in that time, but there’s few more critical than the acceptance and approval from the Security Industry Authority (SIA), meaning that they’re fully accredited to provide licenced and highly trained security personnel across a wide range of industries.
It was then that Churchill began to adopt what would soon become common practice across the whole of the security industry, pioneering a bespoke approach to security solutions, and acknowledging that, because every site has its own unique challenges, so too should it have a security package that accounts for those individual needs.
That was subsequently followed by their position as one of the ACS (Approved Contractor Scheme) Pacesetters, certifying them as one of the top 3 security providers nationwide – a mark of not only exceptional quality, but of consistent excellence in the industry.
From there, the accolades continued to follow. With an industry-leading customer retention rate of 95%, and an expanding team of dedicated account managers, Churchill’s prowess continued to bring in clients and customers both big and small.
Plus, as Churchill’s reputation snowballed and quickly established them as the go-to option for tailormade security across the UK, they were quickly established as one of the top 3 of all ACS-approved contractors – a highly sought-after and prestigious position.
Over that time, Churchill’s background work continued to tick over, and with that came assurances of quality across 3 different ISO certificates (ISO 9001 in practice management, ISO 14001 in waste reduction and environmental management, and ISO 45001 in health and safety practices), as well as a investment in mental health with their Bronze position on the Mental Health Charter.
Then, in late 2022, Churchill’s success was recognised on a more global, prestigious scale, with 3 nominations in the finals of the OSPAs (Outstanding Security Performance Awards).
It’s achievements like these that really pave the way for future successes, and with the recent acquisition of Vanguard Cleaning, it’s clear that the wheels are in motion for a prosperous and exciting future at Churchill Support Services.
Not only does Churchill’s acquisition of Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions Ltd set the stage for significant developments and growth in the future of both businesses, there’s also a key merging on a more intrinsic and moral level.
With both companies so closely aligning in the core values and what they value on a more human level, there’s scope for substantial development. As an already established cleaning company, it’s abundantly clear that Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions Ltd have much more to bring to the table than their impressive roster of over 300 expertly-trained staff members.
That also includes key figures in the business like Vanguard’s director James Crompton, who’s been a part of Vanguard for its entire history, having established the company in response to the frustrations and hassle of dealing with less-than-adequate cleaning companies across his extensive career.
With a joint pedigree of over 50 years, the acquisition of Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions Ltd also meant that Churchill was working alongside a company with an equal level of experience in an equally resilient and competitive sector.
It’s clear that, particularly when considering the sustained successes of both companies in their respective fields, this acquisition is one that sets up a rosy and lucrative future across both security and cleaning.
But what does that bright future entail for the two companies? Naturally, in addition to the securing of 300 jobs over at Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions Ltd, there’s been a distinct focus on what that acquisition means for the development and growth of its people.
That’s a huge focus for Churchill Support Services, and that’s something that’s going to form the crux of the developments going forward. Emphasising the growth and nurturing of the talents already on board with both companies is a key belief for both firms.
As the companies thrive together under the expanding Churchill umbrella, it’s evident that this relationship will continue to prosper in every aspect, and that begins with offering opportunities for significant growth and development to those who’ve already been embedded in the two projects.
Plus, with the two companies’ stellar reputations across their chosen industries and services, the relationship has the potential to offer a symbiosis across all different sectors. It’s an exceptionally exciting time for both Churchill Support Services and Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions Ltd, with all signs being overwhelmingly positive.
