Born and bred in Lancashire, I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for business from a young age. Since starting my first business when I was 23 years old, I’ve been constantly seeking new business opportunities and striving for excellence.
In 1996 I took the leap into the tech industry, officially founding my second company, Elite Group, in 2000. From there, I expanded my business portfolio into various areas such a property, data and the secondary ticket market, as well as minority and majority stakes in various public and private sector businesses. Never forgetting my humble origins, I now aim to champion young people and budding entrepreneurs through my work as a Prince’s Trust ambassador and angel investor.
In business, as in life, I let my values guide me in everything I do. While it may sound like a common cliché, I truly believe passion for your business and industry is everything. If you’re passionate about what you do, the drive and determination that’s needed to succeed in the business world will come naturally.
While passion, drive and determination are vital for any budding entrepreneur, there are some values I’ve come to recognise as equally important during my time as a business owner, namely humility and teamwork.
I truly believe that technology has the power to change the world for the better. Whether it’s developing AI technology to diagnose illness, powering business productivity or keeping family and friends connected, technological advancements are revolutionising the way we live and work at every level of society.
One of my top goals is to offer support to communities in developing countries, donating money and resources to help provide access to water, good hygiene and education. So far, I’ve supported the construction of seven schools in Ethiopia, which now educate over 2,000 children a year and provide the community with clean water and toilet facilities.
Having taken part in the Prince’s Trust Enterprise programme, I’ve experienced the power of start-up loans and mentoring first-hand. As a Prince’s Trust ambassador and angel investor, I aim to pass on these opportunities to up-and-coming entrepreneurs by investing in projects and people with potential.
